We all love a good snow day! But a snow day on the first day of class is a little disappointing since we won’t meet together in person until Friday 1\/19 and I don’t want us to get too far behind. So, please – today, take care of these tasks: <\/p>\n
1) Read the Syllabus<\/a> closely.<\/p>\n 2) Check out the Blackboard shell and its resources. I use the course website as the MAIN information channel for class, but Blackboard has the enrichment and Constitution modules, discussion boards, gradebook, and other good stuff. <\/p>\n 3) Introduce yourself on the “Day 1 Introductions” discussion board thread on Blackboard by 6 pm tonight Wed 1\/17. <\/strong><\/p>\n 4) For Friday, read the “Emancipations” portion of Chapter 14 in your textbook, Hewitt & Lawson, Exploring American Histories, Vol 2<\/em>. If you don’t have the textbook yet, I’ve posted the reading on Blackboard under “Course Resources.” <\/p>\n 5) To class, BRING a PRINTED 2-page paper analyzing a document about Emancipation. This will be an ungraded “Pre-SkillBuilder” (see the syllabus for details on the SkillBuilder assignments). If you have the textbook, choose any document from 14.1 – 14.4.
